How to choose the right version of Java:

• Minecraft 1.5.2-1.16.5 runs on JRE 8
• Minecraft 1.17 runs on JDK 16
• Minecraft 1.18, 1.19 and later runs on JDK 17
• Minecraft server 1.5.2-1.16.5 runs on JDK 8
• Minecraft Server 1.17 runs on JDK 16
• Minecraft server 1.18 and later runs on JDK 17

How to choose the right version of Java for:

Look at what OS you have, 32 or 64 bit. In Windows, to do this, go to settings, then to System, from there to System Information (About). Download the same Java.
